"Specialty Bass Tackle’s Mike Kane to Compete in TBF – FLW National Championship!"

Mike Kane East Regional Winner
  • Day 1... Kane takes Connecticut Lead
In first place on the Connecticut Squad is Specialty Bass Tackle Owner Mike Kane of Clinton, Connecticut, with a 10-pound catch. He will have a 1-pound 3-ounce lead going into Day 2. "I feel like I can catch a limit each day," Kane said. "If the wind blows tomorrow it may actually help me." Kane is targeting schooling Smallies suspended around Perch, using a custom crankbait made by Specialty Bass Tackle.

  • Day 2... Kane slips to second
Kane struggles with the weather to catch a limit. "The wind and high pressure pushed the schools of perch to the bottom putting the bass out of the reach of my crankbait. I relied on a secondary pattern and a drop shot rig to catch my three keepers today. If today’s weather hurt my bite maybe tomorrow's sunny skies and lack of wind will help." Kane credits his team for the secondary pattern he used when his primary pattern failed.
National Team
  • Kane takes Connecticut crown
Rallying on day three with 13-pounds and a three-day total of 29-pounds, 4-ounces, Kane will head to the TBF, FLW National Championship in March on Bull Shoals in Missouri. "With the lack of wind and the warm sun, the perch returned to the surface and brought the Smallies to a depth I could get to with my crankbait. I had one fish in the boat at 11am and was getting a little concerned. We pounded the area, which I was sharing with three other boats all week and decided to search around the cove to find something new. I spent 20 minutes checking out the opposite side of the cove with my electronics and found four new rock piles with bait suspended all around them. In the next two hours I caught 12 more keepers and culled my 13-pound limit. I can’t thank my partner enough for letting me take time in the middle of the final day of the biggest tournament of the season to find new areas that were holding fish."
